Cornwall war absolut fantastisch. Diese Hecken, diese steilen Hügel und wirklich freundliche Menschen. Aber auch die Fahrt nach Norden enttäuscht nicht. Die Aussichten auf das Dartmoor und ziemlich steile Anstiege, mit absolut entzückenden Überraschungen zwischendurch. Hier eine Herde Shetlandponys. Und mein absoluter Lieblingscampingplatz.
Ein weiterer großartiger Tag. Viel weniger hügelig als gestern, aber immer noch einige Anstiege. Gestern habe ich übrigens etwa 400 Meter auf Garmin verloren, da es aufgrund des Schiebens und/oder zu langsamen Fahrens pausiert wurde. Muss das überprüfen. Fuhr durch den Norden des Dartmoors, auf einem wunderschönen Radweg, ging bergab und dann wieder bergauf. Ziemlich viel. Am Ende war ich super müde, schaute nach rechts. Und was sah ich? Eine Herde Shetlandponys. Das ist jetzt schon einige Male passiert, einen Hügel hochzukommen und dann eine tolle tierische Überraschung zu haben. Auf einer Straße fuhr ein Autofahrer direkt auf mich zu und fragte, ob ich den #lejog mache und dass er in Carlisle wohnt, den ich passieren würde. Im Allgemeinen scheinen die Leute viel freundlicher und gesprächiger zu sein. Jedes Mal, wenn es eine Interaktion mit einem Auto gibt, warten sie, oder ich warte, es gibt tatsächlich ein Lächeln auf ihren Gesichtern. Was ich vorher nicht so oft hatte. Ein weiterer großartiger Campingplatz. Diesmal war er ausgebucht, Feiertage, aber die Stellplätze waren super großzügig und durch Blumenwiesen getrennt. Keine Autos auf dem Boden, aber die Leute hatten riesige Zelte. Schien eher wie Camping für Anfänger, ein etwas hipsterartiger Campingplatz.
ine großartige Fahrt mit einem noch besseren Ende. Ich begann mit einem anderen Ziel vor Augen. Hatte etwas über 100 km geplant, aber mir wurde klar, dass es mit den Anstiegen, insbesondere einem großen am Ende, zu schwer werden würde. Änderte die Buchung mitten am Tag und entschied mich, in der Nähe von Glastonbury im @stationfarmglastonbury zu bleiben. Was für eine großartige Entscheidung! Glastonbury war nett, aber ehrlich gesagt habe ich hauptsächlich eine Kneipe gesehen, in die ich mein Fahrrad rollen konnte. Aber Station Park Farm war mein bisheriger Lieblingscampingplatz! Bethan und Karl waren die besten Gastgeber überhaupt. Sie gingen über das hinaus, was man erwarten könnte. Sofort wurde mir ein Stuhl angeboten, eine Tour über die wunderschöne Farm gegeben und generell wurde gelächelt! 😍 Sie haben mir sogar Abendessen gemacht, hauptsächlich mit Dingen, die auf der Farm angebaut wurden. Ich komme wieder!
Ein schöner und ereignisloser Tag, gefolgt von einem Ruhetag in Bristol. Wachte früh auf und wollte sehen, ob die Geschäfte, die ich brauche, geöffnet sind. Ein paar Meter in meinem Spaziergang sah ich eine Gruppe von Leuten, die herumhingen, und ein Feuer brannte. Hatte so SF SoMa-Vibes. Drehte mich um, um mir einen Kaffee zu machen und zu sehen, was los war. Wenn ich in eine zwielichtige Gegend gehe, möchte ich Bescheid wissen und nicht einfach herumirren. Es stellte sich heraus, dass ich in der Nähe von Turbo Island wohnte. Bristol war nicht meine Lieblingsstadt, aber ich habe alles bekommen, was ich brauchte. Schuhe, einen faltbaren Wasserkocher, Gas und Kaffee. Und etwas Kimchi!
Mit dem Fahrrad von Bristol über eine Brücke. Nie sicher, was ich von ihnen halte, aber am Ende immer ein wenig ängstlich. Vielleicht wegen eines kleinen Unfalls, den ich auf der Golden Gate Bridge hatte, aber diese hier war leer, also keine Probleme. Dann fuhr ich durch wunderschöne Berge hinunter in ein Tal zur Tintern Abbey. Erinnerte mich fast an die Alpen. Endete auf einem kleinen Campingplatz mitten im Nirgendwo mit einem großartigen Panorama.
Das Beste: Ich habe endlich meinen ersten Kaffee gemacht! Ich habe diesen ausgezeichneten kleinen faltbaren Wasserkocher von SeaToSummit gekauft, und er hat einwandfrei funktioniert. Kaffee zu bekommen, ist für mich unerlässlich. Wenn ich keinen bekomme, werde ich ein wenig mürrisch. Das ist jetzt gelöst. Ich habe immer noch ein wenig Angst vor den Gasflaschen, aber na ja... Die Fahrt war, soweit ich mich erinnern kann, ereignislos und schön. Ich erinnere mich an diesen einen Teil, wo sie ziemlich viele Bäume pflanzen, was schön zu sehen war. Oh, und ich traf zwei Radtouristen, die tatsächlich cool aussahen, als ich meinen Zeltplatz verließ. Wir teilten uns die Straße genau 100 m lang. Das Zelten am Abend war großartig, mit einem Überraschungsbesuch von Kühen, die im Fluss neben meinem Zelt badeten.
Und noch etwas. Ich liebe die öffentlichen Fußwege. Tolle Idee. Aber meistens nicht mit dem Fahrrad befahrbar, was meine Route manchmal vernachlässigt. Ich werde die Geschichte dahinter und die der #bridleways auch mal recherchieren müssen.
Die Berge kommen langsam näher. Die ersten Tage hier im Vereinigten Königreich waren manchmal wirklich holprig, steile Anstiege, steile Abfahrten. Im Allgemeinen war es wunderschön, aber das kann ermüdend sein. Besonders wenn es so steil war, dass ich nur schieben konnte. Aber jetzt kommen einige längere Anstiege, bei denen ich nicht schieben muss, mich ein wenig verausgaben kann und belohnt werde mit herrlichen Aussichten! Das macht mich sehr glücklich! Der Campingplatz, auf dem ich ankam, war voller Krähen. Notiz an mich selbst, da ich dort keine Bilder gemacht habe. Und in vielen Dörfern findest du die alten Telefonzellen, die jetzt als Stationen für Defibrillatoren genutzt werden. Ziemlich cool. Und hübsch!
