Bisher nur ein Tag in Schottland! Aber viele Landschaften deuten darauf hin, was noch kommen wird. Beeindruckende Berge, viele Schafe und kein Mangel an Steigungen. Aber auch enttäuschende Teile, sehr seltsame Hindernisse, um Menschen aus Fahrradwegen herauszuhalten, die ohnehin meist furchtbar sind. Bisher bin ich sehr zufrieden mit der Verkehrssituation im Vereinigten Königreich, aber die Fahrradwege sind katastrophal.
Stop. Look. Listen. Klingt wie ein Motown-Song, ist aber nur ein Warnschild für einen Bahnübergang. Ich finde sie immer etwas stressig. Als ich ein Kind war, wurde mein Nachbar von einem Zug getötet. Erster Halt in Shrewsbury. Super süße kleine Stadt! Bin über eine Karottenkuchen-Roulade gestolpert, die überall verfügbar sein sollte! Am Abend auf einem super niedlichen Campingplatz, die Fahrt ziemlich ereignislos.
Ein schrecklicher Tag! Eine längere Fahrt geplant, nicht viel Anstieg. Aber Mann! So schlecht! Schreckliche Straßen, kleine Kanalstraßen und vor allem. Viele, und ich meine VIELE absolut lächerliche Tore! So viel Geld für absoluten Unsinn ausgegeben. Wer auch immer diese geplant hat, sollte in der Hölle schmoren. Der Campingplatz hatte jedoch direkt an meinem Stellplatz Ponys. Es gab einen kleinen Fluss zu überqueren. Auf dem Hinweg hat es gut geklappt ... beim Verlassen nicht so gut...
Ereignisreich! Erstens: Ich bin in den kleinen Fluss gefallen, den ich zuvor erfolgreich überquert hatte. Am Abend war ich so müde, dass ich einfach durchging. Am Morgen versuchte ich klever zu sein. Um ein kleines Loch herum navigieren. Aber es war nicht klever. Es war mit Algen gefüllt und sehr rutschig. Also bin ich reingefallen. Nichts ist passiert. Nur das Schutzblech wurde locker. Aber ich wünschte, ich hätte ein Video davon. Dann wurde ich so hungrig, dass ich essen musste! Etwas Anständiges, nicht nur #hobnobs. Habe meinen ersten Sunday Roast und meine erste Yorkshire Pudding bekommen. Köstlich! Habe einen Campingplatz gebucht, der so toll und lustig klang! Aber ich war der Einzige dort und es war eigentlich ein riesiger Park. Wirklich, ein wenig gruselig. Aber insgesamt ein guter Tag!
Ankunft in den Yorkshire Dales. Einer meiner bisherigen Lieblingstage. Viele lange Anstiege, wunderschöne Landschaften und viele Schafe. Habe auch einige lokale Biker getroffen und einen perfekten Blick auf die drei Gipfel genossen, habe vergessen, wie sie genannt wurden. Dachte, ich würde in Ingleton anhalten, musste aber einen weiteren Anstieg in den Nationalpark machen. Wunderschön, aber zu viele Autos auf diesem Abschnitt. Ich habe praktisch zwischen zwei Gipfeln gezeltet, was absolut atemberaubend war.
Wahnsinnig schön! Mit vielen Hügeln und der klaren Erinnerung, dass es immer lohnenswert ist, einen Berg hinauf zu fahren. Für die Aussicht! Begann mit einer super schönen Straße. Bergab durch Berge, keine Autos! Landete in Ingleton und sie hatten, zu meiner Überraschung, einen tollen Outdoor-Shop, in dem ich eine neue Isomatte kaufen konnte. Viele Höhlenforscher hier. Fuhr durch leere bergauf Straßen, traf einen Radfahrer, der seinen Geburtstag auf der Straße feierte. Der Tag begann bewölkt, wurde aber zu einem sonnigen Tag. Am Ende des Tages fand ich eine kleine Kneipe, die die beste Pastete hatte, die ich je gegessen habe!
Wunderschöne Aussichten zu Beginn des Tages. Immer schwer einzufangen, aber unwirklich schön. Schöne und einfache Fahrt, bis ich in einem unbefestigten Abschnitt landete, wo ich an einer Burg und Herden von Kühen und Schafen vorbeikam. Ich muss mehr über die Geschichte der öffentlichen Fußwege und Reitwege in England herausfinden. Für mich im Moment nicht so toll. Aber zu Fuß unterwegs zu sein, ist großartig. In Carlisle gelandet. Große Enttäuschung. Ich wollte Wäsche waschen, aber nichts. Keine einzige Waschsalon. Die größte Attraktion für mich war die McVitie's-Fabrik. Dort werden meine größte Energiequelle hergestellt. Hobnobs!
Ich habe es nach Schottland geschafft! Ein großes Etappenziel! Die Landschaft war wunderschön, aber die Straße war eher eine Fahrradautobahn. Nur ein Streifen an einer ziemlich belebten Straße. Toll, um einige Meilen zu schaffen! Aber ein wenig beängstigend, wenn große Holzlaster vorbeifahren. Endete auf einem Campingplatz mit der schönsten Aussicht und Unmengen von Kaninchen.
