After a bit of a rainy day on the North Coast 500 I reached a stretch on the A896 which was spectacular to bike. Very newly made road, all downhill. Downhill to Kinlochewe. I hadn't booked a stay at the campsite and was therefore a bit nervous whether I could stay. The campsite is part of the Caravan club, and I was never fully certain whether tents are welcomed, specially as you can only book them when you're a member.

To have a little bit of a framework to evaluate campsites for bike travelers, I wrote my criteria down in another post. The review is based on these criteria.
The slight worry was unnecessary. The owners greeted me very warmly and showed me the area for the tents. They gave me as well a tour of the site. These are the kinds of welcomes that I valued so much during the trip, the feeling after a long day on the bike that people care for you and are glad that you're there!
The campsite is mainly for caravans and RVs, but they had a little spot without any vehicles. Small, but great and close to the facilities.
There were picnic benches
The owner showed during the tour as well the dry room. There I could charge my battery packs and had good WIFI reception.
Only the dry room. But it was warm, clean and cosy.
There's a little souvenir shop on the site. But just outside is a gas station with a great little shop and cafe. You get excellent coffee there, cake too, and all the things you might need. In Kinlochewe is also a little restaurant/hotel, the Kinlochewe Hotel. I was warned, that they are not necessarily welcoming to people from the campsite, especially when they only want to go for a drink. I got a seat, but not in the actual restaurant, but in some sort of lounge. It was quite a strange experience, but there's not a lot of options in the evening.
Yep, the North Coast 500.
The area around Kinlochew is certainly beautiful. The campsite itself is not bad either, but it is a caravan/RV site and there are lots of them. But the owners, and the visitors as well, were really friendly, which is a great thing!
I would definitely recommend it! It's a great stop. And the service station is a great addition!
