Canal, canal, canal. I just take it as a bit of a highway. It’s nice to ride, but not a lot going on. It’s fascinating though to see all the old factories. They seem ancient, but some seem to be still working. The next days will be similar so I’ll be tuning up my mileage.
Read onAnother sunny day at the canal! In France I encounter nuclear power plants quite often. At least I think that’s what they’re. They always give me creeps, but make me a bit of nostalgic as well. I grew up with Chernobyl. But I always think off Loriot and the Xmas scene when they unpack their presents. I passed Sancerre and thought about having a tiny bit of wine for lunch, but then I skipped. I actually never drink while biking, at least when fully loaded. I find it too dangerous. Had a great dinner and a very mediocre campsite. Again, always astonishing what a difference it makes when the campground managers are unfriendly.
Read onWell, you guessed it. Canal. But as well a great campsite, a baby dachshund and a thunderstorm. Given that the campsite offered all that I need, water boiler, chair and ice cream, I spent a rest day there to not get in the thunderstorm.
Read onAfter a rest day, cycling continues. Really enjoying the Jura. Finally some mountains, at least in sight. In the evening quite some rain, but miraculously I was again quite sheltered. Always proud when I make a proper meal!
Read onBeautiful day! With a beautiful campsite at the end. If there wouldn’t have been obnoxious people doing yoga in front of my tent. Nearing the Suisse border and all bridges look like the one from Geneva. Oh, pizza in the evening at a great location with super friendly staff.
Read onI hardly took some pictures. Partially because I was quite busy biking, partially because I was a bit bored with the canal/river. But this sunflower field was gorgeous! And Besançon a beautiful city. I only took a picture of a sign for the Via Francigena though. It feels like I'm coming around, as the Eurovelo 5, where I started, was largely along this pilgrim path. Last full day for the next weeks in France, so I got again some of my favourite snacks.
